Susan's Fish-n-Chips, nestled in Portland, Maine, has earned its place as a beloved seafood joint since 1989. Renowned for its award-winning chowder and a variety of fresh seafood options, this casual eatery boasts a menu that offers everything from crispy calamari to hearty fish and chips. Guests rave about the luscious lobster roll, often finding it more reasonably priced than competitors in nearby Boston. Many reviewers applaud the casual ambiance, reminiscent of a rustic marina. The freshness of the ingredients is a highlight, with hand-cut fries and lightly breaded fish consistently praised. Although some customers noted that the seasoning can be subtle, the homemade tartar sauce adds a unique touch—albeit not to everyone’s taste. Service is generally regarded as friendly, though it occasionally experiences hiccups during busy times. Notably, diners have enjoyed the generous portions and the commitment to quality. With picnic tables and a welcoming vibe, Susan’s offers a satisfying experience for those seeking authentic seafood without the frills. Whether you're in the mood for clam strips or a seafood platter, Susan's Fish-n-Chips stands ready to deliver a delicious, affordable seafood dining experience in the heart of Portland.

I picked this place because of the reviews. So thank you to all. This is the best lobster roll I’ve ever had and for 24.99. I’ve paid 40 for a lobster roll in Boston. The chowder needed to be hotter, but great taste. The seafood platter was amazing. Fresh. Lightly breaded. Tasteful. Amazing!!! Excellent fries. The fish red sauce and the tartar sauce were delicious!!! I repeat: delicious. Great service. They brought the food to our table. We were there in the afternoon, after lunch rush. We definitely recommend this place.

Cool looking seafood joint I wanted to try while in Portland... it's been here since 89'. Overall good reviews, but some mixed. Met my expectations for take out fried (AND FRESH) fish. 18 on a Wednesday night. I called at 6:52 pm and was told it would be ready in 10-15 minutes. Fish and chips dinner included several lightly breaded pieces of fish, fries, and Cole slaw. The fries were hand cut, like fresh boardwalk fries. The fish had a light breading, which given this is fresh not frozen, will fall off easily. The Cole slaw was quality IMO. The fries and fish weren't particularly seasoned, and what a good sauce or condiment is for. I've always hated tartar sauce until I had a really good homemade one (thanks Matthew's seafood Market in Cape May Courthouse, NJ!)... so I was hopeful with Susan's since it's homemade. Unfortunately it had the taste I despise (I think it's relish or a lack of something else). Malt vinegar would pair well if you feel like I do. Either way, the service and quality were great and it was a cool spot.

The food was great. Loved the fact that the lady was had breading the fish. Lobster roll could have been served on a hoggie roll but it was filled with plump well cooked lobster. Potato salad was a little bland but good nonetheless. Would come back for shure.

Susan's Fish and Chips is a Portland gem. Don't expect a fancy ambiance. Susan's is all about the food, perfect for those seeking a delicious and affordable seafood experience. The fresh ingredients, generous portions, and casual atmosphere make it a local favorite. Just be prepared for a potential wait and limited seating.

Were driving through the area and looking for an authentic, quick seafood restaurant. We found Susan’s. The atmosphere is casual, picnic tables and rustic mariner. Ordered fish chowder and seafood chowder for starters. The soup was good, buttery and not a thick cream soup. Lots of fish and seafood. We ordered scallops - they were excellent although, on a special diet because of a recent surgery, I asked if they could be grilled and although there was a grill, they said no. I tried to pick the batter off and couldn’t. So, my hubby ate them but the taste I did get - they were delicious. Sweet and fresh. Husband got the lobster roll. It was filled with lots of meat and butter drizzled over it. He enjoyed it on a hogey bun. Left lots of the bun and ate the meat. Was so good. French fries were fresh. Nicely fried. Service was good overall. Just the cashier taking the order seemed annoyed that I’d ask for anything different. They weren’t super busy at the time either. So, that was the downside. The food was great though.

Our first lobstah rolls....yummy! Clam chowder was amazing and Susan has free coffee.... Can't think of the last time a restaurant offered free coffee. Root beer was flavorful. Onion rings were the best we ever had ... homemade batter that wasn't greasy. Will eat there again when visiting the area!

If you want to get your money’s worth when it comes to fried seafood come here! Me and my family have been coming here for years and they’ve never let us down. A lot of seafood places in maine are either over priced, do not give you decent portions, or over/under seasoned, but Susan’s never falls short. It has an old school vibe to it (if you’ve ever been to a fish fry place down south then you know what I’m talking about). And the people that work here are always super kind, polite, and real. I appreciate the authenticity and lack of “boujee” ness lol. The fish is fresh and the batter they use to fry it in is never too oily or crispy. This place is such a gem and I completely understand why it’s been in business for so long! in the picture: scallop pint (after eating lol) two fish burgers

Awesome place to eat! Stuffed Lobster roll for 20, two fish burgers for 3 on Monday and Tuesday, and kids get a free ice cream with showing their report card. The food was amazing, there is quiet outdoor seating, and the service is excellent
